Our Property

I recommend the tipi to those who are willing to experience something different and are open to be amazed by being close to nature without giving up too much in comfort.

My husband and I were discussing the addition of a new cabin in our backyard to expand  “ La Atrevida “  b&b ,  in our home in rural Jose Ignacio, when we first heard of "the indian tipi" from our friends Terry and Heidi, who pitch their own tipi every summer in their farm in Colorado to have extra room to lodge family and visiting friends.

The idea of having tipis for those guests who love the outdoors , became more appealing the more we learned about their history, design and use by the native american of the great plains.

On my next visit to my friend’s organic farm " Gratitude Gardens", near Montrose, Co. I was introduced to the owners of the  company (Colorado Yurt Co.) that manufactures the indian tipis , Dan and Emma .

I later visited their office and workshops where this amazing structures are made by talented craftsmen and craftswomen of the area, and we decided to

order two 18 feet tipis  to add to our b&b .

Dan and Emma advised  us on the best material for our -close to the sea -location in Jose Ignacio. They combined the best  fabrics and the highest workmanship to create our tipis to last many years in the southern Uruguay climate.

One of my lasts  days in beautiful Colorado,  on a very hot july morning,  my friend Terry pitched  their tipi  to give me a chance to see the  whole process, take notes,  pictures, and of course , ask a million questions so my husband could get and idea of what we had to  do when our tipis arrived.

We were very excited when we finally had the tipis pitched in our property,  after a couple of less than successful attempts, I must confess.

We set up our bed in one of them, a mosquito net and moved in!  I have to say that it is amazing to go to sleep listening to the ocean , the wind in the pine trees, and the birds in the morning,  the light inside is warm and invites to stay in,  it is  very peaceful . Of course if our dog barks, we hear her too, but that is part of the  experiencing -nature deal- .
